City cleaning collects 25.3 tons of Fastelovvends waste
Full commitment from the city cleaning service: After the carnival parades in Aachen, more than 130 employees of the city cleaning department of Aachen's municipal services once again ensured clean and safe streets, squares and sidewalks. For the "orange sparks", who are traditionally the last group on the road, "everything went well", as Dieter Bohn, head of the city cleaning department, emphasizes: "We received a lot of thanks and approval." But he also says: "We had a lot of work again this year."
This is reflected in the results: the men and women were out and about with a total of 12 small and large sweepers, nine flatbed vehicles, three compactors, a workshop truck and, of course, on foot. 25.3 tons of waste were collected after the parades on Sunday and Monday - for comparison: last year it was 22.3 tons of waste, in 2023 it was 13 tons. "It was noticeable this year that there was a lot of confetti scattered along the entire route," says Dieter Bohn. "That makes cleaning very difficult. It will be a while before we have the entire pavement clean again."
On Tuesday, the city cleaning staff were still busy with the follow-up cleaning: They cleaned side streets and areas that were difficult or impossible to reach after the Rose Monday parade, for example due to barriers or grandstands, such as on the market square, until late in the evening. The green maintenance staff also began cleaning the play areas along the route of the parade on Tuesday morning.
