The "Hömmelethek" in the Aachen City Library: Sharing things instead of buying them

Aachen City Library has been offering a very special service for over a year now: the "Hömmelethek". Users with a valid library card can borrow various items free of charge and easily from this so-called library of things. "Hömmele" is Öcher Platt and means "many things".

Whether musical instruments, tools or creative materials: the Hömmelethek stands for the sustainable use of resources and the opportunity to try things out without having to buy them straight away. The musical instruments are particularly popular and can be admired in the music library on the third floor. Adults aged 18 and over can borrow the instruments for two weeks.

With the Hömmelethek, Aachen City Library promotes access to education, creativity and cultural participation beyond the constraints of consumerism.

A complete overview of items available for loan can be found in the city library's online catalog: https://sohub.io/v0u2
