Meeting of the citizens' forum
The next meeting of the Citizens' Forum will take place next Tuesday, June 24, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chamber of Aachen Town Hall. At the meeting, a citizens' petition will be discussed and a "tool box for Aachen's city center" will be presented.
After longstanding criticism of the traffic situation around Soerser Weg and Merowingerstraße, the citizens' forum is dealing with a new citizens' petition. The citizens' forum discussed the situation back in 2024 and took a joint look at the local traffic situation with the participation of residents, politicians, the administration and the police. The impressions gathered there were incorporated into the current application. The application proposes to keep parts of the sidewalks free by arranging alternating parking bays on the carriageway. In the view of the applicants, this is a response to the parking situation, which is perceived as problematic. This is currently characterized by blocked paths and confusing traffic conditions.
Afterwards, the city managers from the Citizens' Dialogue and Administration Department will present the "Tool Box for Aachen's City Center". The colleagues have developed the toolbox under the motto "Get involved! Together for the city center" as a collection of funding instruments and participation formats. It is intended to make it easier for citizens, especially city makers from areas such as retail, gastronomy, culture and volunteering, to access opportunities to help shape the city. The toolbox is part of an action program to revitalize Aachen's city centre and is to be widely communicated via various channels (digital, print, presentation). The aim is to motivate as many citizens as possible to participate at a low threshold and to promote the implementation of impulse measures in cooperation with the urban community.
All Aachen residents are cordially invited to take part in the Citizens' Forum meeting and join in the discussion. Everyone is welcome and every opinion is important. Further information on the meeting and the agenda items can be found in the council information system for citizens at aachen.de.
