Demographic monitoring 2024

Do you know off the top of your head how many people live in Aachen? Or how old Aacheners are on average? The population of a city is constantly changing. That's why the city's statistics office publishes a demographic monitoring report every year. The current edition for 2024 provides all the facts, interesting data and comparisons with previous years. As of December 31, 2024, the number of inhabitants in the city of Aachen was 261,472. On average, they are 40.9 years old.

With demographic monitoring, the City of Aachen takes a look at all the developments that shape our lives in Aachen: Population development, social structure, births, migration and household composition. It also looks at the differences in the statistical districts of our city.

For the year 2024, it can generally be said that Aachen was somewhat quieter than in the previous year. The 261,472 inhabitants are spread across just under 152,000 households - a slight decrease. The number of 18 to 24-year-olds has fallen, but the decline in births has at least slowed compared to 2023.

But alongside the clear challenges, there are also positive developments to be discovered. Demographic monitoring is intended to help us understand these developments and view the city from different perspectives.

The current demographic monitoring is available at www.aachen.de/statistik. You can also download all previous reports up to 2013 here.
