Roadway renovation on Eupener Strasse
Aachener Stadtbetrieb is having the road surface between Jahnplatz (Luxemburger Ring/St.-Vither-Straße) and Diepenbenden extensively resurfaced as part of the major asphalt works on Eupener Straße. The work will be carried out during the summer vacation from Monday, August 4 to Tuesday, August 26. The renovation area must be closed to out-of-town traffic. In the direction of Belgium, a detour will be signposted from Jahnplatz via St.-Vither-Straße, Siegelallee and Monschauer Straße to the highway in the direction of Eynatten/Belgium. From Diepenbenden, traffic heading into the city will be routed via a one-way system.
The ancillary facilities are not currently affected, meaning that pedestrian and cycle traffic will continue to be possible without restriction. The ancillary facilities will be renovated at a later date, as different material is being used than for the asphalt renovation, which in turn requires different paving equipment. If the work were to run in parallel, the respective companies would restrict each other and the one-way regulation, which is made possible for the construction period in the direction of the city center, would have to be omitted.
The asphalt surface is expected to be laid and the final road markings applied from Monday, August 18. For this reason, no vehicle traffic will be permitted in the entire road area described above until Wednesday, August 20, and the construction site will be completely closed. The final remaining work will then be carried out under half-closure.
It is strongly recommended not to walk on the road surface prepared with adhesive, as there is a risk of permanently staining clothing. The same applies to driving vehicles. Parking is prohibited during the entire construction period. The work may cause noise and dirt nuisance. Appropriate protective measures will be taken to keep this to a minimum.
As the current width of the parking lanes no longer complies with current regulations, they will have to be re-marked in accordance with the new regulations once the road has been renovated. In order to ensure a sufficiently wide lane for buses to pass, it is necessary to reduce parking to one side on the entire section. This is the only way to ensure that Eupener Straße continues to fulfill its function in Aachen's bus network. The corresponding marking plan was approved by the Mobility Committee on May 15.
In view of the poor condition of the road surface, it is imperative that the asphalt is repaired at this point in time and that the work is carried out during the vacation period due to the importance of Eupener Straße for traffic. This is the only way to ensure that road safety is maintained for all road users on Eupener Straße in the long term.
