Language Summer 2025: Reception at Aachen City Hall
A warm welcome to Aachen: On Monday, July 7, Mayor Dr. Margrethe Schmeer welcomed 34 participants from ten countries to this year's Language Summer in the White Hall of Aachen City Hall. Schmeer welcomed the guests and emphasized: "We really appreciate them coming to us and wanting to get to know other cultures. Aachen is a very cosmopolitan city, characterized by its location near the border triangle."
Language promotion and culture
The Language Summer is offered by Sprachenakademie Aachen in its function as the Language Center at FH Aachen. Participants include international students who come to Germany for a short period of time to improve their German language skills. However, German teachers and German studies students from abroad also take up the offer. This year, three international groups are traveling to Aachen as part of the Language Summer. The first group has now been ceremoniously welcomed in the town hall, traditionally a highlight of the program.
During their stay, which lasts several weeks, visitors receive daily German lessons. At the same time, a varied leisure program is organized to get to know the city and the language better. There will be a visit to the cathedral and town hall as well as a tour of the Centre Charlemagne, and excursions to the border triangle, Brussels and Monschau are also planned.
Aachen-Ningbo town twinning
The exchange is marked by a city partnership in Aachen: 24 students from Ningbo University came to the imperial city this week. Ningbo, located in eastern China, has been Aachen's twin city since 1986. The Association for the Promotion of the Aachen-Ningbo Town Twinning organized this year's reception in the town hall.
In August and September of this year, two other groups can look forward to a reception and a subsequent guided tour of Aachen Town Hall as part of the Aachen Language Summer.
