Dilapidated pedestrian bridge to be demolished
The pedestrian bridge between the "big" Hahner Straße and the cul-de-sac Hahner Straße, opposite house number 43a, has to be demolished. The wooden structure of the bridge is largely soaked through. This has resulted in fungal growth. In addition, the edge beams have longitudinal cracks up to 11.5 centimetres deep and the nail plates of the cross beams are rusted. Overall, the damage means that the structure is no longer safe for traffic and must be demolished. A new construction is not planned as there are other pedestrian crossings in the immediate vicinity.
Demolition by the Road Maintenance and Bridge Construction division of Aachener Stadtbetrieb is expected to take place between February 3 and 7. A crane truck will be used to load the steel railings and wooden beams and dispose of them properly. The gap on the north side will be closed by adding a brick parapet. A hedge will be planted on the south side. This connecting work will be carried out as soon as the weather permits.
