Local politics in the week from January 27 to February 2

The next municipal policy week is well filled with a total of twelve meetings. All district councils are meeting.


Tuesday, January 28

The Committee for the Environment and Climate Protection meets at 5 p.m. in the administration building on Mozartstraße (room 207). Topics to be discussed include the construction of a new equipment depot for the volunteer fire department in Aachen-Richterich, including a rescue station, the 2024 tree survey and the status of the introduction of a CO2 monitoring tool.

The meeting of the Finance Committee begins at 5 p.m. in the meeting room of Haus Löwenstein. The agenda includes, for example, the "Querbeet" service for addicts in the StädteRegion Aachen who are unable to work, the 2025 budget discussions of the Finance Committee and the 2023 annual report of the City of Aachen Foundations.

The Citizens' Forum will meet from 6 p.m. in the Council Chamber of Aachen City Hall. The "AachenPanel" will be presented here as an instrument for representative digital citizen participation. Two citizens' motions will also be discussed: one is a motion to rename part of Großkölnstraße as "Hiroshimaplatz" and the other concerns noise pollution caused by the traffic situation on Schurzelter Straße.


Wednesday, January 29

The meeting of the Aachen-Kornelimünster / Walheim district council starts at 5 p.m. in the meeting room of the district office on Schulberg. The district council will discuss, for example, the 2025 budget consultations, needs planning for child daycare and a selection of family centers and parent cafés for the 2025 / 2026 daycare year.

In Aachen-Brand, the district council meeting will take place at 5 p.m. in the district office on Paul-Küpper-Platz. The 2025 budget consultations will also be discussed here, alongside the regional mobility transition and the planning of childcare requirements for the 2025 / 2026 childcare year.

The Aachen-Mitte district council meets at 5 p.m. in the council chamber. Three of the topics: the "Branderhofer Weg / Am Römerhof" development plan, the selection of family centers and parent cafés for the 2025 / 2026 KiTa year and the 2025 budget consultations.

The Aachen-Eilendorf district council will also meet at 5 p.m. in the district office on Heinrich-Thomas-Platz. The district council will discuss issues such as municipal heating planning, a status report on the progress of construction work at the Montessori elementary school on Kaiserstrasse / Barbarastrasse and the 2025 budget.


From 5.30 p.m., the Aachen-Laurensberg district council will be discussing topics including a status report on the final expansion of the "Am Sandhäuschen" development, the renovation of the Deutsche Bahn bridge on Horbacher Straße (L 231) and a status report on the "New central operating theater clinic" construction project in the meeting room of Haus Löwenstein.

At the meeting of the Aachen-Haaren district council, which begins at 6 p.m. in the meeting room of the community center on Germanusstraße, topics such as traffic safety measures for the exit from the "Sackgasse" road, a redesign of the freeway bridge on Kaninsberg and municipal heating planning will be discussed.

The Aachen-Richterich district council meets from 6 p.m. in the meeting room of Schloss Schönau on Schönauer Allee. The renovation of the Deutsche Bahn bridge on Horbacher Straße and the 2025 budget consultations will also be discussed here. The district council will also discuss demand planning for child daycare for the coming year.


Thursday, January 30

Following the district councils on Wednesday, Thursday's local politics will begin with a meeting of the Committee for Social Affairs, Integration and Demography in the Council Chamber at 5 pm. The agenda includes a Council motion on CSD Aachen 2025, another Council motion on the "Free menstrual products" pilot project and the continuation of recognition advice for professional qualifications acquired abroad in 2025.

The Culture and Theater Operations Committee will also meet at 5 p.m. in the administration building on Mozartstraße in room 207. Among other things, the committee will discuss the allocation of funding for 2025, a status report and the concept for the "schrit_tmacher" festival in 2026 as well as prospects for the International Newspaper Museum.
