Aachen volunteer fire department delighted with donation
On Wednesday, January 22, the Aachen Volunteer Fire Brigade received a donation check in the amount of 2,600 euros. Provincial
Office manager Thomas Poqué personally presented the award to Aachen's head of the fire department Andreas Bierfert and Ralf Johnen, head of the staff/office of the volunteer fire department. In this context, Poqué expressly thanked the members of the fire brigade for their operational readiness for the benefit of the citizens.
The importance of volunteering
As head of the municipal fire and rescue service department, Bierfert emphasized the importance of the volunteer fire department: "Volunteering is essential for a high standard of safety for the population. That's why we are very happy about the commitment of everyone who also organizes many events in the districts and strengthens social cohesion. We are therefore all the more grateful for any support, such as the current donation, which helps us to increase the level of equipment." The importance of the volunteer fire department was demonstrated once again during the recent onset of winter, when around 100 operations had to be dealt with in one night. "Without the support of the volunteer forces, this would not have been possible for the professional fire department alone," emphasized Bierfert.
"We are delighted with the donation cheque from Provinzial Versicherung, which has been supporting us for many years. In recent years, we have used the donation for hoses, firefighting clothing and generators, for example," explained Johnen. The donation has always been earmarked for a specific purpose and the expenditure of the donations for the required material is documented. The approximately 700 volunteer firefighters in Aachen, who are organized into 14 units - including ten fire engines and four special units - benefit from this.
Provinzial Versicherung AG has been committed to the volunteer fire departments in North Rhine-Westphalia for many years. In addition to financial support, the company also contributes to fire safety education for children. The aim of these measures is to improve the equipment of the fire departments and to strengthen fire protection in the region in the long term.
