Start of the second part of the "Aachen 1944" event series
The premiere of the musical play "Oppenhoff.Mohren.Cohn" about attitude and resistance on January 18 at 7 pm in the main auditorium of Theater Aachen marks the start of the second part of the event series "Aachen 1944 and the road to democracy.
While the Second World War had already ended for Aachen in October 1944, it took another six months before the German Reich surrendered on May 8, 1945. Since October, the city of Aachen has been commemorating these historic events together with many other stakeholders in an extensive program.
In the second part of the series of events commemorating this period, numerous organizations and initiatives are now shedding light on the first months of 1945, when Aachen became a kind of "experimental laboratory" for democracy.
The Mediahuis Aachen commemorates the first newspaper, the DGB the founding of the first free trade union and the adult education center the Oppenhoff murder case. It is also about the importance of democracy today: the Bürgerstiftung Lebensraum Aachen asks, for example, whether democracy, freedom and peace are once again in danger?
The complete program with registration options is available online at www.aachen.de/aachen1944 . A printed flyer of the program is available at the usual places and is also available at the adult education center.
