City recommends: avoid cemeteries, playgrounds, parks and forests
The city authorities announced today, January 15, that the sports fields in the city of Aachen are no longer closed due to the risk of ice from trees. However, individual artificial turf pitches could still be closed because there is still too much snow on them.
The damage to the cemeteries will continue to be repaired as quickly as possible. The affected cemeteries will be gradually reopened. The damage to the municipal playgrounds has been registered and will be gradually repaired. In some cases, trees have been so severely damaged that the affected playgrounds will remain closed for the time being and cannot be used.
The Kornelimünsterweg has been open to traffic again since Tuesday evening, January 14. The closure shortly before the weekend due to fallen trees and broken branches has been lifted.
The city is appealing to everyone to avoid unenclosed playgrounds, cemeteries, parks and wooded areas for the time being.
