The influence of A.I. on our discourse and public sphere - problems, opportunities and forecasts
Thu 16.1., 19.00
Lecture by Prof. Dr. Philipp Dreesen, Institute of Applied Linguistics at the ZHAW Zurich
Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the way we inform ourselves, how we process data and how we communicate. But how does it influence the quality and structure of our public discourse? What risks does the use of AI pose for our diversity of opinion and search for truth? But what opportunities are opening up to make debates and discussions more inclusive and participatory? The lecture will outline the basics of text-generating AI applications from a linguistic perspective. In addition to taking stock of current challenges in the formation of public opinion, specific predictions will be made: What could language models be trained with in the future? Will there soon be too many texts? How can we be sure who we are talking to? How can we observe what we are talking about as a society? In cooperation with the German Language Society.
