Update 2 p.m.: Trees fallen in the city, cemeteries and sports fields closed. Appeal: Avoid parks and wooded areas!
Update 2 p.m.: All sports grounds in the city area are also closed with immediate effect. Tomorrow, Friday, January 10, the city's tree maintenance department will be carrying out special road safety checks on sports fields and playgrounds.
Urgent warning from the fire department: Stay away from parks and wooded areas. Due to the wet snow, there is a high risk of branches falling or trees toppling. The fire department and municipal services are working to clear danger spots.
Update 1 p.m.: All cemeteries in the city area are being successively closed. Falling branches and trees that threaten to topple over make this traffic safety measure necessary.
Aachener Stadtbetrieb is currently deploying all available forces throughout the city to not only clear roads and paths, but also to remove trees that have fallen due to the masses of snow and prevent further toppling. Parts of the Vennbahnweg are not passable or accessible.
There are currently obstructions on Eupener Straße, Roermonder Straße, Lütticher Straße and Hermann-Löns-Allee, among others, due to dangerous spots and operations.
We ask all citizens to exercise extreme caution: no matter how you get around, whether on foot, by bike or by car: move carefully and prudently so that everyone can get through the day together in good health and the traffic routes remain clear for emergency vehicles, gritting vehicles and anyone else who needs to drive!
