Bundestag election 2025: District electoral committee determines final result
On Friday, February 28, the district electoral committee unanimously determined the election results of the Bundestag election in Aachen. In the Bundestag election on Sunday, February 23, the area of the city of Aachen formed the constituency 086 Aachen I.
A total of 142,982 valid second votes were cast. In one constituency, 48 votes for the Sarah Wagenknecht Alliance were accidentally attributed to the German Alliance. The exact and corrected distribution of second votes and details of the election results can be found on the City of Aachen's website at aachen.de/bundestagswahl2025.
The determination of the directly elected candidate in the constituency is no longer necessary due to the change in electoral regulations. This determination is now the responsibility of the Federal Electoral Committee in accordance with Section 78 of the Federal Electoral Regulations.
This year, despite the short deadline, 33 percent of voters voted by post. A total of 56,294 election letters were received. Interest among Germans living abroad was particularly high this year. In the last Bundestag election in 2021, 3,333 people registered on the electoral roll, this year it was over 5,000. The postal voting documents for Germans living abroad were sent out as a priority from 10 February. Due to delays at the post office and a strike at the Belgian post office, around 3,000 Germans living in the border region made their way to Aachen and cast their votes on site at the electoral office. These votes were counted in the 71 postal polling stations out of a total of 233 polling stations.
