Shrub clearing and pruning work at the East Cemetery
Shrub clearing and pruning work will continue at the East Cemetery until March 1, the start of the breeding and nest protection period. Machine noise and operational traffic may occur for the duration of the clearing work. Burials will not be affected, as the work will be restricted accordingly during this time.
The employees of Aachener Stadtbetrieb are removing non-native cherry laurel hedges in particular, which have become very widespread in the cemetery. The maintenance work is intended to help give the eastern cemetery a more open character with small lawns between the burial plots. Lawns and meadows also help to cool down the city. At night, they act as natural cold air circulation areas and thus lower the temperatures in summer.
