City of Aachen leaves X and now also posts on Threads and Bluesky
The city of Aachen has added two additional social media channels to its portfolio. It is now represented on Threads and Bluesky. At the same time, on Friday, February 14, the City of Aachen is leaving the platform X (formerly Twitter), where it has been posting the latest news from the administration since 2009.
By leaving X, the city is responding to the increasingly critical development of the platform and is joining numerous institutions that have already left X or have announced their intention to do so, including more than sixty German universities as well as other municipalities, ministries and public institutions. Aachen stands for diversity and democracy. A platform that has been described by the Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency as "a kind of right-wing extremist disinformation and propaganda platform" is not compatible with these values.
The City of Aachen is represented on the following social media platforms with current topics from the administration and is looking forward to the exchange there: Instagram (instagram.com/stadtaachen/), Facebook (facebook.com/unseraachen), Threads(threads.net/@stadtaachen), Bluesky (bsky.app/profile/stadtaachen.bsky.social), Mastodon(nrw.social/deck/@stadtaachen). Current press releases and numerous city topics and information can also still be found on the website www.aachen.de.
