Fire department: Interim station grows upwards on Adenauerallee
The container building is growing at lightning speed: The construction of the interim station for the Aachen fire department is progressing rapidly, to the delight of all involved. The two-storey container facilities have recently been erected on the site next to the former Heidbendenstraße / Adenauerallee sports ground. In future, these will house the rest, social, sports and training rooms. The lightweight vehicle hall with the necessary ancillary and technical rooms will soon be built upstream. If everything continues to go according to plan, the interim police station is due to start operations in August 2025.
"Then 17 colleagues from the fire and rescue service will be on duty here per shift," reports Maximilian Nüßler, Head of the Preventive Fire Protection Department and responsible for current construction projects at the Aachen fire department. A few days ago, Nüßler visited the construction site together with the municipal building management team led by department head Gabriele Hajok and representatives of the specialist company carrying out the work. Construction began - initially with the necessary earthworks - in October 2024.
As the name suggests, the interim station is intended to be a temporary solution. This is because Aachen is getting a new fourth fire and rescue station so that the south-west of the city can be better served by the rescue and fire protection services in the event of emergencies. The interim station will take on this important task until the complex planning and subsequent construction are completed. The need for a fourth fire station in this area of the city has been identified in the city of Aachen's fire protection requirements plan. Following intensive consultations, politicians decided that this should be built on the corner of Robert-Schuman-Straße and Siegelallee. The "Fourth fire and rescue station" planning competition was concluded last fall with three award winners and one recognition. The building management is currently preparing which winning design will be used to realize the construction project. The city expects the new station to be operational from 2029 at the earliest. Until then, the interim station will provide the population with emergency services.
