The 27th Aachen Art Route begins!

Marvel at a wide variety of art forms throughout the city of Aachen: this will once again be possible on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29 as part of the Aachen Art Route. With over 300 artists and 53 stations, the Aachen Art Route presents itself with the best participation and more diversity than ever before. Museums and art associations of international standing, numerous galleries and creative artists' groups invite you on a voyage of discovery through Aachen's art world. Painting, drawing and photography, objects, printmaking and digital printing, as well as performance, installation, photography, street and land art will also be shown in spaces that are otherwise hardly accessible. "I am delighted that the art route will once again make the city's cultural veins and gallery landscape visible," explains Heinrich Brötz, Aachen's Councillor for Education, Youth and Culture, enthusiastically.

Up close and low-threshold: experience art in Aachen

The 53 stations are spread throughout the city. The central exhibition "SPEKTRUM*24" in the Aula Carolina is the ideal starting point for the individual route. Works from various other stations can be seen there, offering a foretaste of the route. The stations are open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., while some exhibitions do not close until 10 p.m. on Saturday.

One of the aims of the Aachen Art Route is to offer new galleries and artists an initial event and at the same time to introduce visitors to the spectrum of Aachen's art scene. The aim is to break down barriers and make art, culture and galleries accessible to as wide an audience as possible. The program is free of charge and there is even something to be won: Anyone who has collected at least four stamps on their station card can win a work of art of their choice worth 500 euros in a competition. The works of art available for selection are already marked during the art route.

Many highlights in the program

New this year, among other things: The "Dutch House" in the former "Lust for Life" department store, where a group of Dutch artists will be exhibiting their works. In addition, Dutch artist Alfons de Laat will decorate the façade of the building with 50 bright tulips during the course of Saturday. Heinrich Hüsch, organizer and chairman of the Aachener Kunstroute e. V. association, also attaches great importance to Euregional cooperation: "We would like to intensify our collaboration with the Dutch and Belgian art scene. We can enrich and stimulate each other through Euregional cooperation."

Hüsch would like to express his special thanks to the city of Aachen on the one hand, and to the five municipal museums that are now also participating with their programs on the other. The artist Tim Berresheim, for example, will be presenting his project "Aus alter Wurzel neue Kraft" (From Old Roots to New Strength) together with pupils and representatives of the participating institutions in the Ludwig Forum on Saturday, September 28, at 2 pm. This is another characteristic of the Aachen Art Route, as Hüsch explains: "Guests can meet many artists on site and get in touch with them. That is the close and direct character that defines our art weekend."

Traditionally, the opening vernissage with a speech by Lord Mayor Sibylle Keupen takes place on Friday, September 27, at 8 p.m. in the Aula Carolina. The central exhibition will be accompanied by music from HeJoe Schenkelberg, who will improvise on the accordion.

The Aachener Kunstroute e. V. association, which is dedicated to promoting contemporary art, organizes the big art weekend. The city of Aachen is subsidizing the event with 5,000 euros. The organizers are expecting over 20,000 visitors.
