European Mobility Week: Aachen is taking part again this year

  • The European Mobility Week begins on Monday, September 16 and ends on Sunday, September 22.
  • This year's motto is: Using street space together.
  • The Mobility Week is all about sustainable mobility. A whole range of interesting offers show what has happened in Aachen so far and what is possible.

The city of Aachen is once again inviting people to take part in this year's European Mobility Week (EMW) from September 16 to 22. Once again, everything in Aachen and other European municipalities will revolve around the topic of sustainable mobility. This year's motto is "Shared Public Space - using road space together".

As in the previous year, the city of Aachen is increasingly involving actors from all parts of society. They are taking part with their own activities at locations of their choice. The result is a colorful week of action with events spread across the entire city.

The information wheel of the new aachenbewegt.de campaign will serve as a contact point and information point for EMW 2024. The city will also have its own stand at the "Mobility Special" on Sunday, September 22. It will also be supported there by ASEAG with an information stand and by the welfare organizations Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) and Caritas, which will present various rickshaw offers in Aachen at their joint stand.

The EMW starts on Monday, September 16, with a city walk on the new inner-city mobility, bike training and an open training offer at the traffic training area on Hohenstaufenallee. The rest of the EMW program is filled with street openings, information events, bike tours, guided tours and training offers. The Skate Night at "Lust auf Life" is also part of the EMW program. New this year are the Wabe association's bike station with a bike light week and several artists who are approaching the topic of mobility in Aachen in an artistic way. The mobility app aachen.move will once again feature a prize draw.

Children in particular are the focus of the Mobility Week program in 2024. During the action week, the city is testing the concept of school streets at four Aachen elementary school, which many other cities in NRW have already implemented. In addition, the redesign of Talstrasse will be celebrated at the depot as part of World Children's Day, creating more safety and quality of stay, especially for children. The EMW Chalk Challenge organized by the Department of Children, Youth and Schools (FB 45) is also entering its second round. Young Aachen residents can once again submit their best chalk pictures and win great prizes. There are also prizes for groups this year.

The entire program with all the activities and lots of detailed information can be found on the following website: www.aachenbewegt.de/kalender.

And one final tip: If you can't make it to EMW this year with your own campaign, you can make a note of the date for next year. The European Mobility Week always takes place from September 16 to 22. So after the EMW is always before the EMW.
