Tree donation and planting campaign in the Aachen forest
A great idea enters its third round: After the tree donation and planting campaign was so successful in previous years, it will continue in 2024. The Aachen Municipal Forestry Office in the city's Climate and Environment Department is once again organizing its campaign for citizens and companies in the city forest on Saturday, 16 November, from 9 am to 2 pm.
In recent years, the Aachen forest has been severely affected by drought, climate change, damage caused by bark beetles and storms. To create a forest that is better adapted for the future, deciduous trees are being planted in open areas as well as under older spruce trees. The latter in particular promises a seamless transition to the next generation of forest.
The people of Aachen can take part in this: For a donation of 10 euros per tree for the Aachen forest, they can plant trees themselves on November 16. This amount will be used to procure the plants and subsequently care for them. As a matter of principle, only plants from controlled sources and special forest nurseries in the Aachen Forest will be used.
The planting will be accompanied by forestry staff from the city of Aachen. A limited number of places are still available. Anyone who would like to take part should send an email to nick.vondenhoff@mail.aachen.de by Friday, November 8 at the latest. The e-mail should include the number of people, the number of tree donations and a telephone number. Places will be allocated according to the number of registrations received.
