Science slam with short presentations, elephant toothpaste and a dancing robot dog
Under the motto "Bringing science to life", the Science Slam took place at Aachen's Katschhof - initiated and organized by FH Aachen and the City of Aachen's Science Office. The science show attracted numerous spectators and thrilled them with scientific slams, experiments and the dancing robot dog Spot. The Science Slam was hosted by the Rector of FH Aachen, Professor Dr. Thomas Ritz.
The event focused on students who presented their theses in creative and entertaining short talks. The aim was to present complex scientific topics in an understandable and humorous way. The participants competed against each other in an exciting contest - and in the end, the audience decided who would take home the coveted winning title.
The winner of the first Science Slam was David Kondziela, who impressed with an innovative and practical presentation on energy management in buildings. Using the example of an egg race in a pub, he used a playful approach to visualize efficient path optimization in the distribution of thermal energy. Thanks to his entertaining presentation style, he was able to get the audience excited about his research and prevail against the strong competition.
Thomas Ritz and Dipl-Ing. Andreas Horbach also performed exciting experiments and produced live elephant toothpaste. "We are delighted that the Science Slam was such a great success," emphasized Professor Ritz. "This format shows impressively how science can be brought closer to a broad audience in an entertaining way." The City of Aachen's Science Office was also delighted: "With the Science Slam, we have found the ideal setting to present science in a lively and everyday way," said Mirijam Böhme, Head of the City of Aachen's Science and Digitalization Department. "The partnership with FH Aachen made a decisive contribution to the event being so successful and attended by so many people. Our common goal was to make science tangible and visible - and we certainly succeeded."
FH Aachen and the Science Office of the City of Aachen are looking forward to future joint projects and the continuation of the successful Science Slam format.
