November 16: Youth fire department of the city of Aachen practises realistically

The youth fire department of the city of Aachen will be holding a major operational exercise on Saturday, November 16, from around 12 noon. Due to the approaching emergency vehicles, traffic disruptions in the area of Zieglerstraße, Kaubendenstraße and Kellerhausstraße are to be expected at times during the start phase. The company Aachener Papierverwertung & Containerdienst Horsch GmbH & Co. KG has kindly made its premises and building on Kellerhausstrasse available for the exercise. The exercise scenario involves a major fire with a search for people. In order to be able to rehearse a realistic emergency, injury actors and fog machines are used, among other things. For passers-by who happen to observe the exercise, this may give the impression of a real operation. The city wants to counteract this impression by informing the public in advance.

The youth fire department forms an important part of the ranks of the fire department for the recruitment and training of future emergency personnel. Within the city of Aachen, the youth fire department is divided into three departments (North, Central, South) and comprises around 120 young people and 30 instructors.
