"Future Forst" district perspective: politicians decide how to proceed

The aim is to shape the future of the large Aachen district of Forst with its various neighborhoods of Unterforst, Altforst, Schönforst, Forster Linde, Obere Trierer Straße and Driescher Hof in a way that makes them liveable and lovable. Together with numerous stakeholders and politicians, the city of Aachen set out on this path in spring 2023. The result is the "Future Forst" district perspective. This has now been unanimously adopted by politicians at the meeting of the main committee on Wednesday (November 6) as the basis for the further development of the district. Ten other specialist committees of the city council had previously discussed the topic.

The district perspective "Zukunft Forst" was developed by the administration together with the planning office plan-lokal. Over the past year and a half, numerous events and offers have taken place in which local citizens have been able to participate and get involved. At the same time, a steering group with stakeholders and political representatives was set up from the outset to actively support the process. On around 300 pages, the district perspective with an attached mobility concept provides a comprehensive analysis and assessment of the current situation. The six sub-areas in focus are located along Trierer Strasse. Around 23,000 people live in the 400-hectare area. All areas of life and the different neighborhoods were examined and profiles of strengths and weaknesses were drawn up. A catalog of measures shows what potential can be leveraged in the individual areas.

The administration is now to present a program of action for the entire district. This will define priorities in terms of space, content and time. With the help of various funding approaches, the aim is to further strengthen and expand the potential and social structures on site and - visibly - to improve the quality of life and infrastructure. One component will also be to further prepare the basis for applying for urban development funding.
