"Stadtnavi": The new route planner for Aachen is online
How can I get from A to B quickly, comfortably and in an environmentally friendly way? Where can I hire a cargo bike? Is my bus late? Where can I find the nearest charging station? How full are the parking garages in the city center? Questions upon questions. The "Stadtnavi" provides the answers to all these questions. It is now available at the following address: https://stadtnavi.aachen.de
Stadtnavi is an online route planner that is available for internet browsers and as a mobile website. The planner links all available mobility options in the region and enables intermodal route planning. This means that Stadtnavi combines local public transport services, walking and cycling as well as carpooling, sharing services and, if required, private motorized transport for the requested route, depending on the user's wishes and options, always with a focus on environmentally friendly mobility.
Stadtnavi is a regional alternative to other widely used navigation systems such as Google Maps and offers a number of advantages. For example, all data is handled anonymously and securely in accordance with European data protection law. Current roadworks are displayed as well as relevant real-time data (e.g. parking garage occupancy, utilization of charging stations, availability of e-scooters and information about public transport). When planning a route, various means of transport are displayed as alternatives.
Another special feature is that Stadtnavi uses open data. It is also an open source application. Every region can copy Stadtnavi without paying license fees and use it in their own region. All regions benefit from further developments in other municipalities.
In addition to the new Stadtnavi, the city of Aachen introduced "future routing" (https://zukunftsrouting.aachen.de/) in summer 2024. Unlike the city navigation system, future routing is aimed at the traffic routing of the future in the city of Aachen. It therefore has a more playful perspective. Users of the future routing system should become more familiar with the future control points in Aachen's city center. Basically, the system assumes an "ideal-typical" situation. No roadworks, traffic situation information or real-time data are integrated. The focus of future routing is primarily on car traffic.
