Searching for Clues at Benediktusplatz 24
A multifaceted building with a late-medieval core
With the owner’s support, the building at Benediktusplatz 24 was examined by building researchers from the historic preservation authorities in the spring of 2024. The investigation revealed that the wide and seemingly uniform facade facing the square belies a complex construction history spanning more than 500 years. Hidden behind the façade are the rooms of the former inn, living quarters with Baroque elements and fireplaces, a backyard that was likely never intended as such, and many architectural details from different eras that raise numerous questions. How old is the house? What did the house look like in the past? How and what parts were remodeled? What helps us identify changes and traces of historical use?
