Aachen City LibraryAs part of the 27th Literary Summer / Literaire Zomer, Dutch author Joost Oomen will be a guest at the Aachen City Library to discuss his novel *A Full Life*.

Theo Engel works as a physician who assists in end-of-life care, accompanying people who are suffering unreasonably and without hope on their final journey. The responsibility of his profession weighs increasingly heavily on him. One day, he receives an unusual letter: Gerrit Blauw, a perfectly healthy man, requests euthanasia because he considers his life to be complete. To convince Theo of his wish, Gerrit recounts a life full of love, art, and extraordinary experiences—and prompts the doctor to reflect on whether a person deserves not only a beautiful life but also a beautiful death.

Joost Oomen, born in 1990, writes prose, plays, and poetry. He served as resident poet at the University of Groningen and as city poet of Groningen.

The event will be moderated by Maren Jungclaus. Jana Plückelmann will provide interpretation.
