Höcke: A right-wing extremist on the road to power - reading and discussion with Frederik Schindler
Björn Höcke is a central figure in Alternative for Germany (AfD), the largest opposition party and now the second-strongest political force in the country. He has had a decisive influence on the AfD and reshaped it in his own image. But who is this man who has supporters across the country? How did Höcke manage to transform an anti-euro party into a movement classified by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution as definitively far-right, one in which no one dares to contradict him anymore? What is Höcke’s goal, and how does he intend to achieve it? Frederik Schindler, a journalist for the daily newspaper “Die Welt” who has been observing the AfD for many years, takes a behind-the-scenes look at the party in this book. Through his investigative reporting, he sheds light on Höcke’s circle, his life before entering politics, and his activities within the AfD. Drawing on numerous conversations with Höcke’s associates, his confidants, critics, and Höcke himself, Schindler traces the AfD’s transformation, analyzes Höcke’s strategies, and provides insights into his network. The result is a comprehensive portrait of one of Germany’s most controversial politicians. Frederik Schindler will present his book in Aachen and then discuss it with the audience.
The free event will take place in the Forum (Room 241) at the vhs, Peterstraße 21-25. Advance registration is requested.
