The district mayor of Aachen-Laurensberg, Petra Perschon-Adamy, is particularly pleased about the central location of the exchange opportunity: "How good that after a lot of commitment, the bookcase in Vetschau has found a central place right on the main road next to the bus stop. It is clearly visible and accessible to everyone, making people curious to browse and put their own book treasures in there for others."
The association Leben in Vetschau LiVe e. V. was able to raise 5,000 euros for the bookcase by submitting an application to the district council as part of its participation in the "Our village has a future" competition. The payment of a special prize of 1,000 euros by StädteRegion Aachen as part of the competition, together with a personal contribution of 1,500 euros, also made it possible to build the foundation. The Aachener Stadtbetrieb then erected the bookcase on this foundation.
Lara Roosen, head of the Aachen-Laurensberg district authority, is delighted with this initiative: "The new bookcase is a great example of how civic engagement and municipal support go hand in hand. I'm delighted that a place for sharing, meeting and reading is being created in Vetschau - open to everyone and accessible at all times."
The bookcase in Vetschau is the second for Aachen-Laurensberg: another bookcase has been located at Roermonder Straße 319 since 2014.
