Volunteer Fire Brigade City of Aachen
Together with the professional fire department, we ensure fire protection in the city of Aachen.
Our 14 fire brigades are distributed at strategic points in Aachen and the surrounding area. In total, there are more than 650 dedicated volunteer firefighters. On-site support at the scene with vehicles, but above all with the relevant expertise, is indispensable. All available personnel carry their alarms with them and are called out when required. This can involve a wide variety of operations.
Admission to the Aachen Volunteer Fire Brigade

Youth fire department
You can become a member of the Aachen youth fire department from the age of 10 to 17.
From the age of 18, you can join the Aachen fire department's fire engines.
Who are we?
The youth fire department is the youth and junior organization of the volunteer fire departments.
It is aimed at interested girls and boys between the ages of 10 and 17.
The young people are supervised on a voluntary basis by members of the volunteer fire department.
These youth supervisors are members of the local fire brigades and are also involved in youth work. What are we doing?
Our groups meet every two weeks on Friday evenings for joint exercises. In addition to learning how to use hoses, fire extinguishers and many other firefighting tools, we also train in first aid and find out why there is a fire and when, and what can be done about it.
In addition to such firefighting-specific content, which is sometimes taught in theory but is usually learned and applied in practice, we also have fun and leisure activities together. In addition to discipline and trust, teamwork and fun are very important in the fire department, especially in the youth fire department.
That's why we always offer leisure activities such as joint excursions or camps.
The joint activities of the three groups include excursions, participation in competitions such as the Jugendflamme and the Leistungsspange. There is also an end-of-year exercise where the young people can show off what they have learned over the past year in front of supervisors, parents and guests. The young people also have the opportunity to take part in exercises and events organized by their home fire department. The times and dates may vary from fire brigade to fire brigade.
How can I take part?

Information for parents
Just like the volunteer fire department and the professional fire department, we are part of the city of Aachen. This also means that membership of the youth fire department is free of charge, and we provide all the necessary equipment (uniform, boots, gloves, helmet).
Before a new member is accepted into the youth fire department, the young person can try out whether we are a good match during a three-month trial period. After this, a routine examination by a public health officer will determine whether they are fit to join the fire department. But don't worry, this examination is only to determine whether there are any pre-existing conditions that we need to take into account. After all, it can quickly become strenuous during an operational exercise.
After the visit to the doctor, the new member is then kitted out and given the equipment mentioned above so that they can really get going.
During the exercises and on the way there and back, the young people are of course covered by statutory accident insurance; via Unfallkasse Nordrhein-Westfalen.
