On the initiative of the Aachen Fire Brigade Association - with the support of the City of Aachen, as well as generous sponsors and the active help of numerous volunteers - the Florian's Village was established in 2005 to provide fire safety education for children and young people. Over the last few years, other partners have also joined the idea of the Florian's Village and offer training courses on the topic of "Safety for children".
During their visits, children and young people are given practical information on the correct behavior in the event of a fire. Since our opening, more than 50,000 children in the Floriansdorf Aachen have been educated about the correct behavior in the event of a fire.
How do I get to safety?
How do I get help?
What should I look out for?
All these questions can be answered in a playful way.
All guided tours are always carried out as part of an experiential and action-oriented lesson. Experience and action-oriented means that the children are shown "real" life and the associated hidden dangers in a playful and pragmatic way, just like in a miniature city. Where do you have to be careful and how can you protect yourself and others from these dangers?
Our program is aimed at children and young people. We teach them how dangerous fire and fire smoke are, the important rules for calling the fire department emergency number 112, what you can/must do to prevent a fire from starting in the first place and, last but not least, they learn that only the fire department can fight and extinguish a fire. The top priority in our training courses is to teach them not to put themselves and others in danger, to report an incident quickly and safely, to warn others correctly and in good time and thus to learn to rescue themselves as quickly as possible or to get themselves to safety quickly.
When allocating appointments, there is no preference as to which municipality the children come from. Although we are mainly visited by children from the city of Aachen and the Aachen city region, we also welcome groups from neighboring communities. Weather-appropriate clothing is important, as the children jump back and forth between the different houses of the Florian's Village and are also actively involved in the outdoor area.
The fire safety education tours at Floriansdorf take place annually between the end of February and mid-December. In the first half of the year, we mainly welcome the "big" pre-school children from daycare centers and kindergartens (5 - 6 years). In the second half of the year, from the summer vacations onwards, the dates are reserved for elementary school. Preferably for the 3rd and 4th grades (8 - 10 years). However, we also welcome secondary school pupils from years 5 - 7 (11 - 13 years) during this period. There will be time for a short breakfast break, so children and young people should bring something to eat and drink.
Our guided tours always take place on weekdays, from Monday to Thursday, between 9.00 am and 1.00 pm. Depending on the age group, the tour lasts between 1.5 and 3 hours. For the guided tours, however, we need the support of 1 to 2 accompanying persons per group from your ranks.
There is a charge of €1 per child/young person. Accompanying persons do not have to pay anything. The money will be collected for all participating children on the day of the training course on site by the person in charge of the fire department or the supporting organization. We will be happy to provide you with a full receipt.

Preparation for the visit
Fire is not only evil and destructive, it is also vital for all of us and a constant companion in our everyday lives. Without fire, nothing in our social lives and interactions would work. This is also referred to as "hidden fire". This should and must be explained to children, as well as the dangers posed by fire. To do this, we need the pedagogical expertise and support of educators and teachers. The spectrum on the topic of fire should therefore be developed in advance with the children in the facilities.
Teachers and nursery school teachers: Our fire safety education concept involves teachers and nursery school teachers learning about 'good' fires such as electricity generationcombustion engines for cars, for exampleHeating, open fire, CandlesCooking before the visit to the Florian village with the children.
Fire department: We as the fire department then take over the 'bad' fire area in the Florian village. Here in particular the danger of fire smokethe general fire hazardsand the correct behavior in case of fire. We do this in a practical, action-oriented and age-appropriate way.
