Did you know that the waste management department of Aachener Stadtbetrieb empties more than 165,000 individual waste containers (organic/residual/paper) and thus collects around 33,000 tons of residual waste, around 12,000 tons of organic waste and around 10,000 tons of waste paper every year? In the waste education department and at the recycling centers, employees provide environmentally conscious advice and assistance. The Aachen Waste Watchers are the contact persons for citizens, raise awareness and help with questions about cleanliness and waste disposal.

The city cleaning service not only cleans 1180 kilometers of roads, 160 kilometers of cycle paths and 850 kilometers of sidewalks every week - on foot or with a sweeper, but also empties thousands of garbage cans in the city every day and is on hand around major events and carnivals to ensure that the city is clean and safe again in no time at all. In addition, around 300 employees are always on standby during the winter to ensure safe conditions on around 1,200 roads and road sections with a total length of around 1,500 kilometers.

Road maintenance is more than just patching up potholes. The safety of our roads, paths and squares is our top priority. That's why road damage is repaired just as quickly as traffic signs that have been knocked over, a stumbling block on Münsterplatz or a demolished bridge railing. Aachen's public works department regularly checks the safety of around 600 engineering structures - bridges, culverts, retaining walls and noise barriers. And if the worst comes to the worst, renovation or new construction is planned.

The city nursery is the largest training company for the cultivation of flowers and ornamental plants in the city of Aachen. It produces, cultivates and grows plants on behalf of the City of Aachen. In spring, summer and fall, the gardeners at Aachen's municipal nursery plant more than 100,000 flowers of 58 species and 200 varieties in the city's flower beds. The city nursery is also responsible for greening the interiors of public buildings and decorating major events such as the International Charlemagne Prize.

All cemeteries and memorials in Aachen not only offer a dignified setting for remembering the deceased. As the operational cemetery operator, Aachener Stadtbetrieb is responsible for 27 active cemeteries and six cemeteries as memorials as well as the crematorium on the Hüls.
