Since 1989, existing pollutants in our existing buildings have been systematically identified and professionally removed. This is an important part of our work for healthy building - alongside the avoidance of new pollutants in new builds and refurbishments.

Procedure
1989 - 1991: First hazardous substance reports (asbestos)
- Preparation of hazardous substance reports on asbestos in accordance with asbestos guidelines
- Assessment of the health risk for users
- Remediation of sites:
- Priority level I: prompt refurbishment
- Priority level II: reassessment every two years
- Labeling of all open components containing asbestos
- Forwarding of the short expert reports with component names to the responsible specialist office
- Health assessment by the public health department
Since 1989: Formaldehyde tests
- Regular examinations and measurements
- Remediation measures if the guide values are exceeded
Since 1994: PCB investigations
- Systematic testing and evaluation of municipal buildings for PCBs
- Implementation of mitigation measures and indoor air measurements in consultation with the public health department
Since 2000: Treatment of man-made mineral fibers (KMF)
- Remediation and handling according to TRGS 521
Since 1990: Further building pollutants & user advice
- Investigation of other contaminated building materials
- Advice for building users in cooperation with the public health department on health impairments through material and indoor air measurements
Since 2014: Reassessment of asbestos
- Assessment of plaster and filler containing asbestos
General measures
- Destructive building material tests for harmful substances prior to conversions and renovations
- Management of a pollutant register
