04/2024: Honoring the bicycle heroes of the city of Aachen

From March 25 to April 15, 2024, Department 61 Urban Development, Planning and Mobility Infrastructure called on all Aachen residents to name their personal cycling hero.

We were looking for a natural person who has a special relationship with cycling and thus gives the topic of cycling an individual touch.

By means of a postcard and via the media, people were asked to name this person and describe in one sentence why they consider this person to be their personal cycling hero.

The submissions were numerous. The department was pleased to be able to read and view the submissions and make a selection based on the texts submitted.

Aacheners were selected in the five categories

• Everyday life: Sofia Bonilla
• Role model: Paul Fabianek
• GenerationPlus: Ursel Pokora
• Engagement: Lucas Rocha
• Non-profit status: Nobert Vohn

In the opinion of the jury, those selected make an important personal contribution to the transformation of the city of Aachen.

The numerous positive reactions, such as the coverage by the Aachener Zeitung (see below), which devoted a separate article to each award-winner, prove that the campaign was successful in making the motivation and enthusiasm for cycling visible.
