Economic Valuation Report
Commercial transportation in Aachen is an indispensable prerequisite for life and economic activity, both for supplying citizens with goods and products and for manufacturing and service companies.

Against the backdrop of steadily rising traffic volumes, sustainable commercial transportation and efficient urban logistics can only be achieved if the municipality actively plans and coordinates the organization and management of delivery traffic in collaboration with stakeholders and implements appropriate measures, while also taking into account other measures outlined in transportation development plans and other planning guidelines.
A reliable data foundation for achieving the goals of transportation planning and climate protection with regard to commercial transportation is essential and has been lacking until now. Against this backdrop, the city administration issued a request for proposals for the project “Preparation of a Commercial Transportation Assessment for the City of Aachen” and awarded the contract to the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics, based in Dortmund, on August 13, 2024.
The commercial freight transport study for the city of Aachen aims to provide as accurate a picture as possible of the current state of freight transport based on existing data on delivery traffic, and to derive recommendations and proposed measures for Aachen from this analysis. In addition, development scenarios for urban traffic and emissions for the years 2027 and 2030 are to be presented. The study area is the city of Aachen, including its core city within the Grabenring, the Alleenring, and the Outer Ring (Adenauerallee/Madrider Ring/Berliner Ring/Prager Ring/A4/Toledoring/Pariser Ring/Amsterdamer Ring/Brüsseler Ring/Luxemburger Ring/St. Vither Str./Siegelallee), as well as several industrial parks, depending on the availability of data.
