The Eilendorf priority cycle route is the pilot route of the priority cycle network in Aachen as "Aachen 1 priority cycle route". Funding from the National Climate Protection Initiative was used for the first elements of the route, with which "exemplary approaches" are promoted nationwide. The RVR Eilendorf connects the Eilendorf district with the city center over a distance of 6.8 km. The start/finish point of the route is the train station in Eilendorf. From there, the RVR runs mostly along cycle paths, past the district office in Eilendorf to the Vennbahnweg, an independent shared footpath and cycle path through the countryside. In 2020, Kleebachstraße in Eilendorf was the first street to be implemented in accordance with Aachen's standards for the design of cycle lanes. Crossing the main motor vehicle road Von-Coels-Straße is possible via a separate cycle signal.

At the end of the Vennbahnweg (at Rothe Erde station), the route continues along cycle lanes towards the city center. From Bismarckstraße in the Frankenberger Viertel, the RVR Eilendorf runs together with the RVR Brand. Lothringerstraße in the Suermond district is the first converted cycle lane to be completely colored red. Shortly before reaching the Grabenring (the cycle distribution ring of the priority cycle network) at Elisenbrunnen, the route passes through the Wirichsbongardstraße pedestrian zone. Under the motto "Fair together", cycling is possible here at a reduced speed.
Planning status
The route of the RVR Eilendorf was adopted on 03.05.2018 in the Eilendorf district council and on 31.10.2018 in the Aachen Mitte district council. On 12.09.2019, the mobility committee commissioned the administration with the successive implementation of the priority cycle network. The RVR Eilendorf has been the first priority cycle route to be implemented since 2019.
