Bicycle priority route Campus Melaten

The priority cycle route to the Melaten campus is part of the "Aachen 1 priority cycle route" pilot route of the priority cycle network in the city of Aachen. Funding was approved as part of the National Climate Protection Initiative in order to implement "exemplary approaches" nationwide. It connects the core area of RWTH Aachen University at Templergraben with the Melaten campus over a distance of 2.3 km. There it merges with the cycle path to Rabental and the Campus Boulevard with a connection to the cycle path to Orsbach.

Planning status

The route runs via

  • Schinkelstrasse
  • Geschwister-Scholl-Straße (cycle lane, implemented, 2020)
  • Seffenter Weg
  • Kopernikusstraße (asphalting of the previously unpaved section, implemented, 2020)
  • Ahornstraße (cycle route, implemented, 2020)
  • Siemensstraße (cycle lane, implemented, 2020)

and ends at the

  • Pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Pariser Ring.

Political consulting

The following resolutions, among others, have been passed on the project:

13.09.2018: The Mobility Committee adopts the resolution on the design standards for cycle lanes.

31.10.2018: The Aachen-Mitte district council approves the route of the priority cycle network.

13.11.2018: The Mobility Committee decides to set up the above-mentioned cycle lanes.

12.09.2019: The Mobility Committee adopts the bicycle priority network.

12.09.2019: The Mobility Committee adopts the resolution on the design standards to clarify the course of priority cycle routes.
