Cycle priority route Brand

planned rare priority route from Aachen-Mitte to Brand

The Brand priority cycle route is the third route of the planned priority cycle network to be implemented. Part of the route was implemented as part of the #AachenMooVe! (2019-2022) in the state competition for emission-free inner cities as part of the state program "Kommunaler.Klimaschutz.NRW.

The RVR Brand connects the Brand district with the city center over 7.3 km. The start/finish point of the route is the Brand market square. From there, the RVR runs via the Marktstraße and Wolferskaul cycle routes to Rombachstraße. Here, the expansion of the southern side facilities and the existing footpath and cycle path is planned.

Under the A44 highway, the route leads over the rebuilt and widened Brander Wall (separate footpath and cycle path) into the Aachen-Mitte district. The RVR reaches Lintertstraße via several cycle lanes.

It was decided to widen the cycle path towards the city center between Schönforststraße and Auf dem Plue. From Auf dem Plue, cyclists can cycle through the adjacent residential area or in mixed traffic as far as Adenauerallee. A protective lane will be created out of town. The crossing of Adenauerallee is being redesigned to enable safe access to the next cycle lane, Altstraße. The shared Krautmühlenweg footpath and cycle path parallel to the railroad line has also been widened. The route then continues along further cycle lanes to the Bismackstraße/Drimbornstraße junction.

From there, it runs through the Frankenberg district together with the RVR Eilendorf. Lothringerstraße in the Suermond district is the first converted cycle route whose lane has been completely colored red. Shortly before reaching the Grabenring (the cycle distribution ring of the priority cycle network) at Elisenbrunnen, the route passes through the Wirichsbongardstraße pedestrian zone.
