Geschwister-Scholl-Straße bicycle lane
After Siemensstrasse and Ahornstrasse, Geschwister-Scholl-Strasse is the third street on the Campus Melaten cycle priority route to be converted into a cycle lane. The marking and signage was carried out in accordance with the Aachen standards for the design of cycle lanes. As part of the creation of the cycle lane, the red paving of the narrow cycle path not subject to compulsory use in the northern side area was removed. As Premiumweg 9a (in the direction of Grüner Campus West), the entire width of the footpath is now available to pedestrians. To make the priority of cycle traffic in the cycle lane even more recognizable, the lane is to be provided with a red surface coating. Due to the upcoming renewal of the Turmstraße bridge in 2021 and the resulting strain on the Geschwister-Scholl-Straße carriageway, the red coating will only be applied after the bridge work has been completed. The measure was implemented as part of the "Climate protection through cycling" program, funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
