Development of the Aachen main cycle network

The concept and course of the "priority cycle routes" for Aachen were unanimously approved by the City of Aachen's Mobility Committee on 12.09.2019. The entire network is shown below.

In addition to this, a complete "main cycle network" for Aachen was developed by the AB Stadtverkehr office in 2022-2023 to fulfill the work assignment in Objective 1 of the Aachen Cycling Decision.

On 25.10.2022, the status of the development of a "target network" was presented to the expert commission for cycling in Aachen's transport development planning. The target network shows the importance of each road in the cycle network. The relevant documents are available in the right-hand column.

On 29.03.2023, a revised draft was presented to the Cycling Expert Commission, incorporating the comments from the first consultation. The associations had until 20.04.23 to provide feedback on this. See documents on the right under Documents.

The administration then created a template that was discussed in the city districts before the 2023 summer break and adopted by the Mobility Committee on 24.08.2023. The main cycle network thus forms the basis for the future expansion of the city of Aachen's cycling infrastructure.
