Aachen is a member of the AGFS

Since 1994, the city of Aachen has been a member of the "Working Group of Pedestrian and Bicycle Friendly Cities, Municipalities and Districts in North Rhine-Westphalia" (AGFS), which currently has 94 member municipalities in NRW.

In April 2021, the city council applied to remain a member of the AGFS. A commission of experts reviewed the application and came to a positive conclusion. "Aachen has worked actively and continuously to create a sustainable, lively and liveable city," was the commission's verdict.

According to the AGFS statutes, membership applications must be submitted every seven years. The technical report - like the previous reports - can be accessed in the right-hand column. Only local authorities that continue to meet the AGFS criteria remain members of the working group and continue to benefit from the advantages of membership.

In addition to Aachen, the following 34 municipalities and regional authorities were also able to extend their membership: Bielefeld, Bonn, Brühl, Bünde, Coesfeld, Dormagen, Dortmund, Dülmen, Düsseldorf, Essen, Euskirchen, Gladbeck, Hamm, Herford, Herne, Herzogenrath, Ibbenbüren, Iserlohn, Kempen, Cologne, Krefeld, Leverkusen, Lohmar, Minden, Mülheim/Ruhr, Münster, Pulheim, Soest, Troisdorf, Unna, Wesel, the district of Lippe, the district of Viersen and the Rhine-Erft district. In addition, the city of Heinsberg has now been accepted as a new member of the AGFS.

At a general meeting of the AGFS on December 2, the AGFS informed the 94 member municipalities about the Bicycle and Local Mobility Act of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), among other things. It will come into force on January 1, 2022 and will shape the work of the AGFS and its member municipalities in the coming year and beyond.

The AGFS is one of the largest municipal networks and sees itself as a pioneer of modern mobility policy. Currently 94 municipalities in NRW are working towards the goals of the association. Internet: https://www.agfs-nrw.de/
