Caritas Aachen develops rickshaw project
The one to two-hour trips with the so-called. "Flaniermobil" become a shared "adventure" during which impressions and life stories are shared. The aim is to extend the range of movement of residents - e.g. of retirement homes - and reduce social isolation under the motto "Cycling without age".
In this way, young pilots build relationships with older people, and both sides benefit. Surveys have shown that not only do the fresh air, interaction, activity and mobility increase well-being, but feelings of loneliness are also counteracted, especially in times of pandemic.
With this innovative, climate-friendly, sporty and pandemic-proof project, Caritas in Aachen is benefiting from the positive experiences of its cooperation partner "Cycling without Age Germany".
From the summer, the motorized rickshaws will initially be used at the Haaren and Aachen-Scheibenstraße locations and - in cooperation with the Gut! Branderhof e.V. - Burtscheid - are to be deployed.

Bicycle campaign "Bicycle back on the road ... with parts from scrap"
The idea:
It often happens that a part is missing from a bike, that you simply want to "upgrade" your bike or that you simply need a cheap bike. "Fahrrad wieder flott ...mit Teilen vom Schrott" offers a good opportunity to find what you are looking for. Old or disused bicycles are regularly collected by Aachener Stadtbetrieb.
This supports the work of WABe e.V:
As part of a bicycle recycling project, WABe e.V. employs, qualifies and provides socio-educational support to long-term unemployed people, severely disabled young people still without vocational training and mentally ill people. The aim of all measures is to make people fit for work again or to maintain their ability to work and to integrate them into the labor market.
Bicycle donations
Anyone who still has an old bicycle that is no longer needed or has usable bicycle parts lying around uselessly in the cellar can contact the WABe association. Bicycles can be collected from your home on request. Individual bicycle parts can be handed in directly to the WABe depot (see right-hand column).
