Sustainability
Sustainability in Aachen – Working together today to build a better tomorrow.
From climate protection and climate adaptation to Fairtrade and sustainable procurement, and on to circularity, mobility, and a livable city: Sustainability ties together the issues—both big and small—that shape Aachen today and will continue to shape it in the future.
Through a citywide sustainability process and strategic sustainability management, we are creating a common framework for this. We develop goals, bring stakeholders together, and help embed sustainability even more firmly in municipal actions. After all, sustainable development is not a single task or a single project. It is a shared responsibility of the entire city.
Aachen's First Sustainability Report
Aachen’s first sustainability report provides insight into where Aachen stands on its path toward sustainable development. The report brings together developments, measures, and activities from various sectors and highlights what the city has already achieved and where further action is needed. It promotes transparency, makes progress traceable, and serves as an important foundation for future planning and management.
Sustainable development
Sustainable development, as defined by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), means integrating environmental responsibility, social justice, and economic sustainability. As a city, we want to shape our development in such a way that Aachen remains a livable, just, and sustainable city for future generations, while at the same time fulfilling our global responsibilities.
