Water meters for agriculture & trade

Water quantities that are demonstrably not discharged into the public sewage system can be deducted from the wastewater charge upon application. Suitable proof is an intermediate meter that meets the criteria of calibration law (in particular meter replacement or recalibration every six years).

Installation of a water meter

Only permanently installed water meters are permitted; however, so-called surface-mounted or screw-on meters are not. A water meter is usually installed in a pipe leading from the cellar or first floor of a house into the garden. After the installation of an intermediate meter, the meter number, the date of installation and the calibration date must be reported to the City of Aachen - lower water authority.

Application and registration deadline

The notification can be made in writing (informally), stating the meter readings from 01.01. and 31.12. of a year. An application can only be made for the last completed calendar year and must be submitted to the city by the party liable to pay the charges by 15.01. of the following year at the latest. After this date, the water shrinkage quantities will no longer be taken into account (cut-off period). If 15.01. of the following year falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the cut-off period ends on the following Monday.
