MORO research project "Enabling more housing construction"
Building on the series of events on Euregional Housing 2022/2023 - held as part of the Aachen Housing Action Concept - the city and StädteRegion Aachen took up the central impulse for more inter-municipal cooperation in housing construction.
On this basis, they jointly submitted a project application for the MORO research project "Enabling more housing construction - spatial planning and inter-municipal cooperation as ways out of the housing shortage". MORO are model projects in spatial planning that are funded by the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building.
The aim is to test new ways out of the housing shortage through spatial planning and cooperation. The project runs from 01.06.2024 to 31.05.2026 with funding of €200,000.
The first step was to commission population, household and housing demand forecasts for the entire region and all municipalities in the StädteRegion. These serve as the basis for a joint housing strategy. At the same time, regional housing development potential was surveyed and mapped. The working group is currently developing so-called area dossiers, which will be used to plan specific areas on an inter-municipal and exemplary basis with housing and utilization concepts.
