You don't need a full wallet to enjoy meaningful leisure activities. Here you can find out what you can do in Aachen on a budget or for free. It's great that meaningful fun doesn't depend on your parents' income!
Sporty
Swimming pools
A visit to the swimming pool is still one of the most inexpensive pleasures. Look out for bonus cards. Children under 6 and birthday children can even visit the swimming pools for free. On some afternoons, special play sessions are offered and are included in the price.
Sports clubs
Attending a sports club is generally very inexpensive and cannot be compared with individual courses. The child makes friends with children who have the same interests. If the parents are in the same sports club, children often pay nothing or a small fee.

Cycling summer
Every year, a new route is declared the summer route. There are also numerous tour dates, which generally cost no more than 0.50 or 1 euro for adults.

Playgrounds
Aachen currently has 226 public playgrounds, 56 football pitches and 13 skate parks. Today, playgrounds have to take on a variety of functions, especially in inner-city areas where there is a lack of spaces where children can move freely and safely.
Adventure playground / construction playground "Kirschbäumchen"
The "Kirschbäumchen" adventure playground / construction playground run by the Kinderschutzbund is also worth a visit. This is a pedagogically supervised adventure and experience playground that can be used by children from 5 to 15 years of age without parents after registration. The adventure playground is a year-round and free leisure activity under the motto: fire, earth, water and air.
Parks and recreational areas
Aachen's city forest is not the only place to go for a walk. Here you can explore nature with the children or play by a stream.
Museum
A visit to the museum is also very affordable. Admission is even free at exhibition openings, during the Aachen Art Route and on International Museum Day. Some museums have a full educational program and guided tours for children or families. In most cases, the special offer is already included in the price.
City library
Families, children and young people are an important target group for the city library, for whom it offers a wide range of services: Browsing through favorite books is just as much a part of this as searching the Internet or the regular reading sessions and events for children.
As the FABIAN book bus, it comes very close to you. The two district libraries are easy to reach for families in the Haaren or Ostviertel districts. There are branches of the city library in Bildchen, Kornelimünster, Oberforstbach and Walheim.
Theater
Before most premieres, the theater Aachen offers so-called "tastings". These are dress rehearsals with free admission. They are regularly listed in the theater's repertoire. There are also occasional afternoon performances with childcare provided by the theater education department. Find out more!
Open offers
The city of Aachen runs several open facilities in the individual districts and almost all parishes also have open children's and youth clubs. The offers are very varied and free of charge! From table football and cooking to computer rooms, girls' clubs, sports activities, movie nights and discos, there is something for every age group.
Vacation games
Many parents look forward anxiously to their children's long vacations. Especially during the summer vacations, it can be difficult to reconcile work and childcare. Not so in Aachen! For years, a huge range of vacation games has been on offer. Most of the activities are free of charge. Only a small contribution towards expenses is charged for special events.
Öcher Bend
The city of Aachen is also family-friendly at the Öcher Bend. On the initiative of the city, there are family days at both fairs at Easter and in August on every Wednesday and on the final day, on which all visitors can take advantage of heavily discounted prices (rides up to 50% off).
Every year on one day at the spring Bend, over 300 children from homes, orphans and disabled children are also invited to take a free tour of the Bend. For most of the children, this is the only opportunity to get to know the Bend and its attractions.
