School social work is a youth welfare support service aimed at children and young people, their parents and school teachers and staff.
School social work works both preventively and intervenes in specific problems and crisis situations. The services are low-threshold, generally require voluntary participation and the content of discussions is treated confidentially.
The aim of school social work is to support children and young people in their individual, social, educational and professional development and to provide or make available suitable measures, advice and support. In doing so, it includes the social environment, extracurricular caregivers, the circumstances and facilities of the district in its work and cooperates with specialists from other support and assistance systems.
School social work helps to ensure that the school as a learning and living space, where children and young people spend a large part of their day, is a place where they can feel comfortable, learn, have fun and find peace. In this context, school social work encourages children and young people to co-determine, co-design and self-organize and supports them in these processes.
