The meeting will focus on selecting topics for Germany’s first permanent Citizens’ Council. The Citizens’ Council is already attracting a great deal of attention and support from the public. Aachen residents have submitted 58 topics.
The steering committee—composed equally of members from the city council’s political parties and members of the citizens’ initiative “Citizens’ Council for Aachen”—is presenting a total of six topics to the citizens’ forum:
• How can Aachen ensure affordable rent?
• How can Aachen make public transportation more attractive?
• What can Aachen do to address vacant properties?
• How can we treat homeless people with dignity and help them help themselves?
• How can Aachen’s downtown become an attractive shopping destination again?
• How can Aachen make the city greener in a sustainable way?
The Aachen residents whose topics were ultimately selected will present their topics at the Citizens’ Forum’s public meeting next Tuesday. At the end of the meeting, the committee will then decide on the final topic. All interested parties are cordially invited to attend the meeting and join the discussion.
In the Citizens’ Forum, residents have the opportunity to actively participate in the discussion. Every opinion matters. More information about the meeting can be found in the City Council Information System at aachen.de
