What does the night mayor do?

The Night Mayor is the central point of contact for all questions relating to Aachen's nightlife and connects event organizers, cultural professionals, administration, politics and other stakeholders. He acts as a guide, mediator and lobbyist, provides quick and uncomplicated information about funding opportunities, contact persons and current developments and actively supports the implementation of projects - in the sense of an "enabling culture" that brings creative ideas to life.

He translates between the language and logic of the administration and the needs of the independent scene, helps to understand different perspectives and resolve conflicts at an early stage. In doing so, he brings the concerns of the scene to the city administration and politicians in order to make them heard. In addition to building a sustainable local network between clubs, event organizers, creatives and administration, he drives the strategic development of nightlife culture within the administration - from awareness and inclusion projects to security and prevention measures to space and location development.

Since 2022, Aachen's night mayor has been a member of the nationwide interest group "IG Nacht Konsil", in which night mayors from all over Germany exchange views on current developments, challenges and examples of good practice. He is also active in the NRW association "IGNach(t)barschaft", where he shapes the exchange on municipal and state-wide perspectives. The impetus gained flows directly into the work on site and contributes to the sustainable development of Aachen's nightlife.

If you have any questions, suggestions or need support with the planning and implementation of events, the Night Mayor will be happy to help you in person, by phone or by email. In addition, since 2023, cultural events in the evening hours within Aachen can be supported via the "GutenAbendAachen" municipal development fund. The main contact person for this fund is now Kai Hennes, who will be happy to advise you on the application process, requirements and funding opportunities.
