Science & Universities

Aachen is a city of science. The universities with their more than 60,000 students and 12,000 employees, neighboring research institutes and innovative companies are a major advertisement for the city of Aachen. As the engine of progress, their research strength and entrepreneurial spirit make Aachen one of the strongest business locations in Germany in terms of start-ups and a globally renowned location for innovation. At the same time, the universities shape the cityscape and, together with their students, are a formative social and cultural element in Aachen.

Your city, your future lab

Fancy a city where knowledge grows and flourishes, where sustainability is alive and well and where the future is possible? The joint initiative of the city and its universities makes science and engineering visible in Aachen. Future Lab Aachen was launched in 2016 to make the lively life in the laboratories and on the test benches visible to all citizens. The knowledge hub Aachen operates under this umbrella brand. It is the label for large and small campaigns and events on the topic of science and the future, for familiar and new formats.

New spaces for science

On an area of around 800,000 square meters, nothing less than one of the largest technology-oriented research landscapes in Europe is being created, with 16 research clusters and 10,000 direct and indirect jobs. With this campus project, Aachen can confidently set itself apart from the now inflationary self-proclamation of German municipalities as a city of science.
