Youth Center OT Talstraße
Description
The Talstraße children's and youth center has been a meeting point for children and young people in Aachen-Nord for almost 35 years now. Located directly on the corner of Tal-, Aretz- and Hein-Janssen-Straße are former streetcar sheds. Many of the pupils come here straight after school to meet up, play table football, pool, table tennis and exchange news in the youth café - with each other or with the facility's five supervisors.
Communication with the children, teenagers and young adults aged between six and 27 is particularly important to the staff. In the afternoon, the young people and children also have the opportunity to do their homework or practise for school - with the help of the supervisors. A computer with an online connection is also available for this work. The young people can also write job applications here.
In addition to a table football table, a table tennis table and a pool table, the fitness room is used extensively. A dance class takes place once a week in the dance room. In the spacious teaching kitchen, the young people cook together and once a week the children do too - much more than fast food or pizza.
On Saturday afternoons, there is soccer training in the Aretzstraße secondary school or on the neighboring sports field: for girls and boys. Many individual projects are also implemented: for example, a film was made with the young people, for which they wrote the script themselves with stories from their everyday lives. In another video project, the children present the OT premises. Various art activities are carried out time and again. Or young people meet former visitors to the center who are already successful in their jobs to find out what requirements are important for everyday working life.
